                    1949/1964 Bible In Basic English

Those that intend to use the Bible In Basic English for other than personal use should verify the copyright/PD status of BBE. The BBE was printed in 1965 by Cambridge Press in England. Published without any copyright notice and distributed in America, this work fell immediatly into the Public Domain in the United States according to the UCC convention of that time. A call to Cambridge prior to placing this work in etext resulted in an admission of this fact. However, things may have changed when the Uruguay Round Agreements Act was signed. Due to the URAA, Some Public Domain works had their copyrights restored on Jan 1 1996. If BBE was coverd by the URAA then it is no longer Public Domain. But, to provide BBE to the public, Bible Foundation was relying on the Public Domain status of BBE before the URAA was enacted, December 8, 1994. This makes Bible Foundation a reliance party. Under the URAA a reliance party can continue to use the restored copyright work until a Notice of Intent to Enforce (NIE) is filed by the holder of the copyright. Bible Foundation is not aware of any NIE for BBE.

For more information about the text, see the file INTRO.BBE which
contains the printed introduction page.
